Chief Instructor
Dr. Von Glass
A Grandmaster in martial arts, began his journey at the age of 7, inspired by Bruce Lee and the martial arts culture of the time. Growing up in an environment of bullying, martial arts became both a refuge and a source of inner power. His early exposure to Isshin-ryu Karate and Tae Kwon Do laid the foundation for his lifelong commitment. Later, he focused on Kenpo, honing his skills in personal protection and security, particularly for ministers, which introduced him to deeper aspects of martial arts philosophy and practice.
Dr. Glass carries on the legacy of *Poison Hand Kenpo*, a specialized system passed down to him by the late Grandmaster Kajana. This unique martial art integrates self-defense with profound knowledge of internal energy, including the application of Dim Mak, or the "Death Touch." His expertise extends beyond physical technique, delving into the manipulation of subtle energy bodies, a core principle of this martial art. As a Reiki Energy Master, Dr. Glass incorporates energy healing into his practice, recognizing the profound connection between the mind, body, and spirit.

Teaches self-defense with profound knowledge of internal energy, including the application of Dim Mak, or the "Death Touch."
He has trained under some of the most respected figures in the martial arts world, including Jawwaad Muhammad, Grandmaster Kajana (a Navy SEAL), and Master Preston (a Green Beret), both of whom served in the Vietnam War. These mentors imparted invaluable knowledge of combat and the practical application of martial arts in real-world situations.
A teacher since 1997, Dr. Glass has dedicated his life to teaching both children and adults, utilizing martial arts not just as a physical discipline, but as a transformative tool for self-development. His curriculum incorporates Zen, meditation, and energy work, emphasizing the cultivation of self-discipline, internal fortitude, and the mastery of subtle energy. His approach goes beyond strength; it is about empowering individuals to harness their inner power through the understanding of energy flow and mental clarity.
Dr. Glass’s personal experiences with domestic abuse and bullying have shaped his teachings, grounding them in lived experience rather than theory. His focus is on developing "Black Belts of Life", individuals who are not only skilled in martial arts principles but who possess the inner power and wisdom to navigate life’s challenges. Through his work, he helps students cultivate the ability to control both their physical presence and energetic influence, equipping them with the tools to thrive in all aspects of life.
Dr. Von Glass is committed to guiding his students toward mastery of themselves—both in martial arts and in life—through the integration of physical discipline, energy work, and personal transformation.
Antoine M. Hayes
Instructor
Antoine M. Hayes I, also known within The Clan and Community as Instructor Aku SeYaH, is a dedicated martial artist and a 20-year student of the Discipline. In 2003, Aku was introduced to Grand Master Kajana Cetaways ("GMK"), who taught a weekly history class centered on Ancient African and Diasporic studies.
As the wise adage states:
“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”
Aku acknowledges that Kajana was one of many teachers he encountered along his path, particularly during the critical juncture of his neophyte stage. However, none have been as impactful. The Discipline of Kenpo, as handed down by GMK and his predecessor, Grand Master Namu, has become a central part of Aku’s very being. It transcends intellectual knowledge, historical data, or social commentary. “It,” as GMK described, becomes inextricably ingrained and unified with the soul of the individual “It” chooses to commune with, because “It” is alive.
“By selection, the Discipline makes no mistakes.”
Aku’s journey is still unfolding. He considers himself “blessed” to have learned the Art firsthand from Grand Master Kajana, Master Jawwaad Muhammad, Master Preston, Master Wayne Williams, and continues his tutelage under II Dan’s Chief Instructor Vondra Glass, Instructor Cedric Bass, and I Dan Keith Horton.

As the wise adage states: “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”
Aku, alongside his fellow Brother Instructor Ghost, was coronated (with others) as a Black Belt by Grand Master Kajana. The ceremony, held in Denver, Colorado, USA, was the final class recognized by the legend himself.

Aku is one of five instructors at the 36th Chambers University of Martial Arts & Sciences, described as “A Jewel in the Crown.” The school's motto is to “Develop Black Belts of Life,” reflecting its mission to teach principles essential for navigating and succeeding in life’s “battlefield,” also known as “the Virtual Dojo.”

Beyond the dojo, Aku is a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor to many. He is passionate about educating and exemplifying upright conduct, particularly for young men and women in Detroit, MI, and similar urban environments.
In his professional life, Antoine M. Hayes I is a 28-year real estate professional—a broker, investor, contractor, and educator—and an employee of the City of Detroit. In his role, he works with a team focusing on affordable multi-family housing developments.
For Aku SeYaH, Kenpo is not just a discipline; it is life itself. Whether on or off the floor, he remains inseparable from “It.” Ase.

Keith Horton
Instructor
For over two decades, I have dedicated myself to the art of Poison Hand Kenpo, a discipline that transcends physical combat to become a way of life. My journey began in 1999, sparked by a childhood fascination with martial arts and the belief that true mastery demands a lifelong commitment.
As an instructor, I approach martial arts as more than technique—it is a vehicle for profound transformation. Grounded in the principles of Zen, meditation, Buddhist and yogic philosophy, and Vedic thought, I guide students to uncover their highest and best selves. The foundation of my teaching is a simple yet powerful truth: the moment is pregnant with all possibilities. Through rigorous training, I instill self-control, discipline, and the ability to channel the mind and emotions as tools for energy and power.

Martial arts are interwoven into every facet of my life—they shape not only how I train but also how I live.
A defining moment in my path occurred during my earliest years of training. After being dismissed from Kenpo tryouts in middle school, I chose not to walk away. Instead, I returned with humility and determination, earning a second chance that would solidify my dedication to this art. It was a lesson in resilience and the power of persistence, values I carry into every aspect of my instruction.
Martial arts are interwoven into every facet of my life—they shape not only how I train but also how I live. My mission is to share this discipline with individuals of all ages and backgrounds, providing them with the tools to grow in strength, focus, and balance. For those seeking to train, Poison Hand Kenpo offers not only the means to defend oneself but the path to mastery over mind, body, and spirit.
Cedric Bass
Instructor
With over 25 years of martial arts experience, Cedric Bass is a 5th Dan black belt in Poison Hand Kenpo. Throughout his journey, he has had the privilege of learning from esteemed teachers Grand Master Kajana Cetawayo and Master Jawwaad Muhammad. His passion for martial arts extends beyond basic principle, encompassing the philosophical foundations of self-defense, body mechanics, and mental discipline.
Cedric’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the art of reduction often described as “shaving away, not adding.” This is the understanding that students arrive whole and complete. His task then becomes guiding the student in releasing the baggage that impedes action. He believes that true mastery comes from simplifying complex ideas, allowing students to experience clarity and precision in both thought and movement, helping students of all ages and skill levels develop confidence, discipline, and a deep appreciation for martial arts as both a practice and a way of life.

Shaving away, not adding
A defining moment in Cedric’s teaching career was leading and graduating his first Green Belt class, a milestone that affirmed the impact of his guidance and dedication. Seeing his students grow and excel under his instruction remains one of his greatest rewards.

In addition to martial arts, Cedric integrates a range of complementary principles into his teaching, including Chi Kung, Tai Chi, polarity therapy, Reiki, the Wim Hof Method, and the work of Dr. Joe Dispenza. These methods enhance his students’ physical strength, mental focus, and energy balance, creating a holistic learning experience.

Cedric Bass continues to embody the lifelong pursuit of martial excellence, inspiring those he teaches to become the best versions of themselves both on and off the floor.
